GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#54 — October 1, 2016

Material and infinite are inseparable.
Appreciating their interconnectedness
is the gateway to understanding.

Greetings, Inspired Seekers!

By the time you receive this newsletter, the first of the Presidential debates will have taken place. Relax. This is not a campaign request; it is an Interbeing request. Yes, we seem to be struggling with ourselves even more these days, in the heat of the political climate. It often feels as if we only see the differences between us rather than the rich, common and holy ground that we all share.

When we are only able to see the world in a linear fashion, when we cannot shift to a nondualistic place, we are unable to see ourselves in others and them within us. And, while we will always disagree on some points, this inability to connect allows disagreements to become complete disengagement. And complete disengagement leads to … well, just turn on the news!

At TheSpaceForGrace, we see grace as a transformational mystery, connecting our humanity with our divinity. It is a mystery available to the world regardless of the tradition we follow. Beautiful words have been written about it and I offer these to you from “Spiritual Canticle” by St. John of The Cross:

When you regarded me
Your eyes imprinted your grace in me,
In this, you loved me again,
And thus my eyes merited
To also love what you see in me…
Let us go forth together to see ourselves in your beauty.

This canticle offers us a glimpse of love and grace at their best, the mystery woven into our beings and the shared space between us filled with both. This love and this grace offer us hope in times of despair, comfort in times of pain, and understanding in times of turmoil.

May this grace and this love transform our separateness into community and give us the ability to listen in the days ahead.

Grace-Fully Yours,
Reverend Deborah
