GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

The best way out is always through.

Greetings, Inspired Seekers:

This is one of the most spiritually charged times of the year, with so many traditions celebrating so many sacred days. And this time in this year is also one of the most troubling we have experienced in recent times. The threats of misguided terrorists, the tragedy in Paris and on our own streets here in the US leave us with a strenuous tension between the joy of the season and the pain of the world.

At times like this many of us feel helpless and discouraged - we ask ourselves: What can I do? While I don’t profess to have all the answers to that question, I do know this: We are called to action. It is a time when our beliefs need to take shape and not simply take up residence in our heads or even our hearts. They need to also live in our hands.

Where are the opportunities for our beliefs to come to life? How can we take an action that will be an act of love, help or compassion, and that will honor the dignity of human life and the Divine Spirit? How can we move beyond understanding and into doing?

Well, we have options. This season do continue your meditations, prayers, songs and chants. And also consider:

Can I feed someone who is hungry?
Can I clothe someone who is cold?
Can I be with someone who is alone?
Can I support someone who is marginalized?
Can I grieve with someone who is suffering?
Can I laugh with someone who is without joy?

Let’s bring our beliefs to life and grace the world with goodness and love - let’s DO what all spiritual teachers have taught from the beginning!

Have a blessed holiday season - Celebrate Them All!

Grace-Fully Yours,
Reverend Deborah
