GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#22 — February 1, 2014

Presence is the capacity to be present for another person with an open heart and to be grounded in our inner being. It is to be present for another person as a supporting light, as a supporting presence - and simply to be present with another person can help.

— Swami Dhyan Giten

Welcome, Inspired Seekers!

Every now and then my morning meditation seems to be charged with energy that bounces off the walls and makes my heart sing while my head swirls. Does that happen to you? And, each time I experience that meditative energy, I wonder why all of my meditations are not fully charged. Well, maybe the answer lies in my ability to be fully present and to be open to the full Presence that is always available.

My day began with a memorial request from a friend — would I conduct a simple ceremony if the upcoming surgery brought about his transition? This request sent a bolt of energy through me and, once again, made the fragility of our presence on this earth very tangible. And, as he is a friend, very close to home. Nothing keeps you in the present like moments such as these.

How are you fully present in this world? How do you connect — and stay connected — in your interactions with others? And, how do you open up to the Presence that guides you? To the Spirit that is your inner voice? In this overly scheduled and activity-centric life, how do you remain focused on your spiritual call?

There is more than one way, there is more than one path, and there are many tools that bring us back to that breath of Spirit. Do you:

Gently finger holy beads
Open the pages of a holy book
Sit in silence for holy listening
Live fully in each holy moment

However you connect to the Divine and allow that Light to shine through you, being present for that connection and sharing it with those you encounter is a holy call on a fragile earth. As you answer it for others, may it be answered for you! May you feel and be fully present!

Grace-Fully Yours,
Reverend Deborah
