GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#19 — November 1, 2013

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them,
is the true measure of our thanksgiving.

— W.T. Purkiser

Greetings, Inspired Seekers:

Happy November! A time when we begin a season of many special days celebrated by many faith traditions:

♦ Nov. 1: All Saints Day - Christian
Samhain - Pagan
♦ Nov. 2: All Souls Day - Christian
♦ Nov. 3: Diwali - Hindu
New Year - Jain
♦ Nov. 4: Hijra - Islam
♦ Nov. 12: Birth of Baha'u'llah - Baha'i
♦ Nov. 13: Ashura - Islam
♦ Nov. 14: Christ the King - Christian
♦ Nov. 28: The First Day of Chanukah - Judaism
Thanksgiving - Interfaith

And, there are many more not listed here. Regardless of how many holy days we remember, the one holiday we all celebrate is Thanksgiving. A time to celebrate family and friends, count our blessings and reflect, with great gratitude, on all that we have received this year. So, what graces your heart this season?

While our lives may not be perfect, while we may face challenges and struggles, if we look deep enough we see the blessings, the hopes and the faith that move us forward. We remember the kindness of strangers, the smiles of children and the hands that have helped.

We also reflect and smile upon those who have helped us live our gratitude. The friends we have comforted, the strangers we have assisted, the small differences that a kind word or simple gesture may have made in someone’s life. For each of these opportunities to serve we give thanks, for we know that as we give, we are blessed.

So let us count our blessings on this month of thanks, offer gratitude and welcome kindness. And know, most of all, that if you are receiving this newsletter, you are being held in meditation and prayer, with great gratitude for all you do. For Grace flows, even when we think no one notices.

Grace-Fully Yours,
Reverend Deborah

Monthly Affirmation: I live in a state of gratitude, with great thanksgiving for all I receive.
