GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#143 — March 1, 2024

Love is the only reality and it is not a mere sentiment. It is the ultimate truth that lies at the heart of creation.

— Rabindranath Tagore

Greetings, Inspired Seekers!

You matter! Has anyone told you that lately? I hope so. Because all of us are formed with Divine DNA – our gift from The Source, our God, regardless of the many names we use to identify our Creator. And, in case you haven't heard this in a while: creation is good!

I have had the privilege of attending several workshops with Matthew Fox and he calls this creation, “the original blessing.” Yes. You. Are.

Every tradition refers, in some way, to the three virtues that are so familiar to us – faith, hope and love. They are gifted to us, quite freely, by the Spirit – in other words – grace. And what a blessing that is.

The question is, How do we offer faith, hope and love to the wider world? How do we bless others? I believe that, in large part, that is what we are called to do – as Graced People of earth.

In order to accomplish this, we must be “in the world but not of it,” a phrase that has often confused me as I tried to find my path. Unfortunately, it often seems as if the world would like to hold us in the everyday agonies we see around us and if we plant ourselves here, full “of” it, goodness is an elusive dream.

We must engage with faith, hope and love; we must be “in” it. We must participate in the process. For that is the core, our center, our DNA wiring, and it is upon us to actually use it as long as we have a place on the planet. We either contribute to good, build our world up or tear it down. We either bless or we don't.

It is our choice. Let us choose well. Let us choose grace to share. For we are made of faith, hope and love and the greatest of these is love. What a blessing!

Grace, Always Yours,
Reverend Deborah
