GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#141 — January 1, 2024

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.

— Corrie Ten Boom

Greetings, Inspired Seekers!

What will you give birth to in the New Year? Surrender? Discovery? Radical compassion? Healthy detachment? The possibilities are endless as we stand at the threshold of the New Year. The next chapter. The way forward. The unknown.

The end of a year turns us a bit inward. Self-examination, review, reflection and renewal are a part of the air we breathe in deeply. And new breath can lead to new life, within and without. An exciting thought and, at the same time, one that makes us wary, for pain and joy are both sides of our human condition. We feel them both, sometimes simultaneously, as we tentatively step onto the new path.

As we sit in our vulnerability, which is rarely comfortable, we are moved beyond ourselves – yes, vulnerability does that. We rejoice with the “glad tidings” as we fully admit that we are perfectly capable of being hurt, having our hearts broken and not really knowing how to put the pieces back together. But that is the essence of this glorious gift called life. Both sides possible, as it is written in the scriptures of all traditions.

May our hearts be fully open in this New Year and, when necessary, may we admit that we may need to hold the hands of friends and The Divine as we cross that threshold. To deny that diminishes our very lives.

Wishing you all good things in 2024,

Grace, Always Yours,
Reverend Deborah

Ponder this: I am headed on the next path, confident that Love will guide me.
