GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#137 — September 1, 2023

Bless anything that shows you wisdom. Anything that shows you wisdom has become a part of who you are and has drawn you closer to life.

Greetings, Inspired Seekers:

How do we develop our spiritual wisdom? Nothing like a BIG question as we begin the new school season – no matter our age, September is always “back to school.” New shoes, BIG new questions.

This question looms before me, having recently returned from The Parliament of the World's Religions; a gathering of approximately 7,000 people from all over the globe, from a multitude of faith traditions, beliefs and non-beliefs, it convenes every 3 years.

The conference was energizing. It gave me hope to be with such a wide variety of humans with the shared goal of making the world a better place. Sharing workshops, classes, meals and spontaneous conversations highlighted our common ground and the perennial wisdom that we share. It also provided a container for our differences to be respectfully cradled in a sacred space.

I wish you could have joined me on this holy journey of wisdom gathering on every level. We engaged in intellectual, emotional and intentional learning as we also recognized and claimed our senses and our actions/choices as spiritual teachers. Not just book learning and theological theories here!

So, this month, perhaps we can recognize and engage with all of these spiritual teachers that expand, not just our learning, but our wisdom. Hold onto that. Because, as this new school season begins, THAT gives us hope!

Grace, Always Yours,
Reverend Deborah
