GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#135 — July 1, 2023

What we call chaos is just patterns we haven't recognized. What we call random is just patterns we can't decipher.

— Chuck Palahniuk

Greetings, Inspired Seekers:

Sometimes it is easy to see God‑As‑Artist, especially during the summer months. The beauty of creation, the glory of the sunrises and the quiet gentleness of the orange-kissed sunsets never fail to delight our senses and our souls. These patterns of nature give us evidence of the Creator.

But, what about the ever unfolding patterns in our lives? There are times when those repeat as a revolving door and we miss them as they speed by. Perhaps we are too busy – caught in our revolving doors of activities; perhaps we avoid them, perhaps we are, quite simply, not fully present and aware. But, whatever the reason, our patterns deserve some attention, especially if we find ourselves in similar, distressing situations. Or, of course, wonderful ones. Life, after all, is an equation to be balanced.

In multiple faiths, across different beliefs, similar patterns can be seen – simply from a different perspective. When we reflect deeply on a belief system separate from our own, if we look closely, we see – and feel – the common and sacred ground upon which we all walk. How magnificent is that! With some thought, we gain new traveling companions on the journey. A coming together, a shared spiritual moment, a widening of a circle, a mystical experience is at the ready.

So, in this middle month of summer, perhaps more of a “middle way” will open us to a wide expanse of community and allow God‑As‑Artist to more fully paint our personal portrait as well as a group shot!

Grace, Always Yours,
Reverend Deborah
