GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#134 — June 1, 2023

It's more important to be in right relationship than it is to be right.

— Parker Palmer

Greetings, Inspired Seekers:

Happy June! There is, probably, no month where the celebration of community is greater than this, the entrée into summer. Barbeques, graduations, parties, beach celebrations and forest walks along with cocktails and conversations fill our calendars and our backyards.

All about this month we see the focus of right relationship. On a micro level, this holds importance for our personal circles and on a macro level, right relationship extends into all corners of our community, our country and our world. What a blissful celebration of unity is June! Or is it?

For right relationship, established by Jesus in Christianity, The Buddha in Buddhism and Krishna in Hinduism, is also about forgiveness, patience, mercy and service. The things that go far beyond beer at the beach and laughter with friends who see the world in the same way that we do. Therein lies the challenge. And the work.

Right relationship is also about a global vision where the Light of the Divine cuts through the chaos of disorder; it provides a space where love binds us together as a sweet icing marries the layers of a luscious celebration cake.

Right relationship brings us face to face and heart to heart with the idea that this life is to be fully enjoyed, fully lived and fully shared with everyone and not just a select few. “The more the merrier,” we say – but we still draw those lines in the sand. And, it is too often, the powerful ocean waves that wash those lines away rather than our own invitations.

So, as summer begins and we light the grills, pour the wine and light the twinkle lights, let's take a few silent moments, while the sun sets, to admire the beauty of creation and enter into right relationship with all of it. Yes. All of it.

Grace, Always Yours,
Reverend Deborah
