GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#124 — August 1, 2022

I have just three things to teach: Simplicity, patience, compassion.

— Lao Tzu

Greetings, Inspired Seekers!

Hmmm… simplicity … it is the one lesson I hope to have learned as we gently, slowly, re-enter the wider world. For this shift into simplicity impacts so very much of our lives, our relationships and our choices. The words of Lao Tzu echo through these days of recovery as from a tour guide ushering us into a world we once lived within and now seems historic.

Simplicity, patience and compassion lead us into that world where we know – in our bones – that we are enough; where we find joy in satisfying need rather than greed and where our sense of community grows, peacefully, stronger and wider.

When we de-clutter (to use the trendy term), we create more soul space; we have closet space that, now, does not require re-filling with more stuff but, rather, provides a shelter that fills us. A space of joy, simple joy, a space for grace to be shared.

Living in spiritual simplicity, with patience and compassion, helps us recognize that, not only do we have enough, we are enough. When was the last time you felt that? How long did that feeling last? Is it just a feeling or are you living in that space?

Are you willing to do the hard work? What will you let go of in order to realize that we are not loved or valued because of what we do, what we have done, or what we have? We are loved because of who we are. When that becomes our reality, everything changes.

When simplicity, patience and compassion guide our relationships and our lives, the entire planet benefits. It really is as simple as that. If we are willing to do the work, with patience, compassion and commitment.

Grace, Always Yours,
Reverend Deborah
