GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#12 — April 1, 2013

Happiness is not something ready-made.
It comes from your own actions.

— The Dalai Lama

Greetings, Inspired Seekers:

It seems as if all of us are on a happiness quest these days. And yet, in spite of that quest, we struggle with change. We need to be pushed to walk through new doors, we need a bit of pressure to help us release tightly clenched fists that hold on to comfortable railings. It continues to be easier to say “no” than to say “yes.”

Perhaps Spring is just the force we need to help us move forward — and quite a force she is. Everything changes in the Spring, but perhaps the most dramatic change is the change of time. Longer days, more Light, and a shift in how we spend the time we are given all help to create a climate for spiritual change — if we are willing to let the newness emerge.

All faith traditions recognize the renewal of Spring, the rebirth of Spirit and the refreshment that comes with the recognition of new Light. As spiritual seekers, how are we spending this new time, this new Light and this new energy we are given? Same old, same old? Or with new possibilities?

Today is your day to be happy! To claim the grace that is given and to unleash it on the world, sharing that happiness and letting it grow. Grace allows us to honor our past and be thankful for the blessings we have received while we co-create a future of hope, peace and greater goodness. It is this in-between time where grace flows, uniting our wholeness with creation.

I am thankful for all of the gifts and people who have come my way before and prepared me for today and beyond — I am hopeful that you are as well. Therein lies happiness that is bigger than the self and that extends from and beyond today, while living in it. My prayer this month is that you find that thin space of grace and the happiness it offers and then, walk within it!

We hope you will release a bit of happiness — and find some as well — at our April Interfaith Celebration Service. We are honored to have as a guest speaker, Jesuit Father Dan Joyce who will share some insight into the Jesuit faith tradition and the potential influence that could be brought to the world through the new papacy. Please join us:
