GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection
#116 — December 1, 2021 |
Love is a sacred reserve of energy; it is like the blood of spiritual evolution. — Pierre Teilhard de Chardin Greetings, Inspired Seekers! December is a month of intense spiritual engagement – or is it? How do you engage – really engage – in the multitude of sacred celebrations that come to life this month? It seems to me that if we are to grow spiritually, to become more fully human and more deeply Divine, actions that round out the contemplative tones of this month are required. We must seize the opportunity to fully engage. As Christmas approaches, how do Christians evolve and grow into Christ Consciousness? How is this spiritual evolution possible? This day is a celebration of God evolving into Jesus through this holy birth, and yet, for many, this remains an intellectual and theological exercise instead of an invitation to engage in our own evolution and rebirth. Can we, as exemplified by this holy day, surrender to love in an extreme way? Regardless of our traditions, can we allow Spirit to free us of the fears that tie us to this earth? As Bodhi Day draws near, can we more fully grasp our Buddha nature and dissolve the illusion of “the other” as a radical step – off the cushion – toward unity? As we light the Yule log in celebration of the winter solstice, can we not only give thanks for change but begin the inner changes that are needed for our own development, painful though they may be? As we continue to light the candles on the Menorah with the Shamash, can we pledge to become the Shamash as a way to light the path for our fellow humans? It seems to me that, especially in this month, we must choose to engage in our own spiritual evolution; we must grow into a greater wholeness where we choose Spirit over self and integrate action with contemplation. Both are needed and both demand our full engagement. Happy Holidays – ALL of them! Grace, Always Yours, Monthly Affirmation: Today I become the hands and heart of Spirit in the world.
