GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection
#8 — December 1, 2012 |
We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come. — Joseph Campbell Welcome, Inspired Seeker! Being a New England girl, I learned many lessons from the ocean and some have been difficult to live. From the salty waters where I grew up, lobsters and crabs were plentiful. And they both had their high season. These glorious creatures also have what is known as a “shedding season,” that is, a time when they outgrow their shells and have to leave behind their comfortable skin in order to grow. If they did not let go of these old shells, they would not survive. We approach the time of year when celebrations abound and we prepare to let go of 2012 and welcome the New Year. So, in order to make room for the new, what do you need to let go of? What needs to be relinquished so that the new life, new growth and new grace can flourish and your spirit unfold? What do you need to let go of so that you survive into the life you were meant to lead? What are you holding onto, perhaps for “dear life” that might actually be preventing a “dear life?” Moses had to leave his beloved land. Siddhartha had to jump over the wall. Paul had to leave behind his belief system. None of these spiritual leaders would have reached their spiritual heights if they had not been able to release the past. During this busy time of so many celebrations, give yourself a day to reflect, retreat, renew and release. Then, rejoice at the path that has brought you here and at the new path that lies ahead. Gracefully shed your outgrown shell and, with faith, grow into your next unfolding. Join other members of the Interfaith family as we celebrate the wonder and the unfolding of All That Is: | ||||||
