GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection

#6 — October 1, 2012

My head is bursting with the joy of the unknown.
My heart is expanding a thousand fold.

Welcome, Inspired Seeker!

This is a time of transition. The trees are losing their leaves, the harvest is being reaped and we are bursting with the energy of the impending year’s end and the new one that will follow. Many faith paths celebrate passages that mark special occasions and meaningful remembrances. And, hopefully, this is an expansive time for all of us.

In Sufism, The Path of the Heart calls us to welcome love and quietness. It makes sense — during times of transition, of opening and of joy — that deeply listening to the voice of the Spirit in our lives is often the first step in rebalancing. What are you hearing?

The Buddha proclaimed, “The way is not in the sky. The way is in the heart.” I echo this as, “I believe that grace lies not in our minds but in our hearts” — a lesser-valued component in 2012!

And in Christianity, one of my favorite scriptures is, “…and Mary kept these things in her heart.” Sometimes, in the quiet moments, the heart fills and holds the space for grace for others who cannot.

It is clear that the heart is a valued and sacred space that unites us all. So — what sets your heart singing? What causes your heart to open to the new possibilities of growth and grace? During the course of a busy day, how do you listen, really listen, to the callings of the Divine that touch your heart and propel you into full engagement?

My prayer for you this month is that you will feel your heart smile with the presence of Spirit and that that smile will explode with joy that you will share with the world at this time of transition. There is a plan for all of us: Be open! Say yes! Listen with your heart! Then, engage your mind!

You are invited to expand your heart — and the heart of the world — by joining us for our monthly Interfaith Celebration:
