GraceNotes: Holding the Space for … Reflection
#2 — June 1, 2012

The only man who behaves sensibly is my tailor; he takes my measurements anew every time he sees me, while all the rest go on with their old measurements and expect me to fit them.

— George Bernard Shaw

Greetings, Inspired Seeker!

Reflecting on our lives and our callings is a necessary spiritual practice, but challenging with the busy lives we lead. And yet, if we slow down and listen, if we can “be still and know that I am…”, we find ourselves in the space for grace that allows us to shift into our new measurements — as Shaw alludes to.

This space that holds our callings is sacred; it is the growing space where our spiritual evolution forms. It holds the key to our awakening and to our wholeness.

The question, my seeking friends, is this: Does our human side give space to our spiritual being or does our hectic humanity rule the day? Not always an easy question to ask. Caring for our whole self is not a privilege, it is a necessity if we are to be of service to the world and to grow in spirit and in love. For it is through reflection and contemplation that we are led into the action of sacred service.

All of the faith traditions of the world recognize and advocate for reflective time; all of the great spiritual leaders took time away from the crowds to reconnect with their Divine essence. Why should we do any differently?

So, over the next month, be committed to your spiritual growth. Choose to reflect. Choose to change. Choose to recognize the new measurements of your life today and lean into them. A few suggestions to help you create or strengthen your daily practice:

Set aside a quiet space.
Take a few deep cleansing breaths.
Focus on your intention.
Clear your mind.
Listen.
Listen again.
Give thanks.

Out with the old and in with the new. Shift. Grow. Prosper. Love.

Grace-Fully Yours,

Deborah
